Body Image & Disordered Eating

If you struggle with negative body image, you may experience body-related feelings of dissatisfaction, shame, or anxiety that may affect your overall quality of life. For some folks, it may also lead to the development of depression, disordered eating patterns, social withdrawal, as well as affect their relationships and physical health.   

Disordered eating refers to a range of irregular eating behaviors that may or may not meet the criteria for a specific eating disorder, such as anorexia, bulimia, or binge eating disorder. They often involve irregular eating patterns (like dieting, restricting, or purging), distorted attitudes towards food, weight, and body shape, and may have negative impacts on physical and mental health.

People of all shapes and sizes can experience body image issues and disordered eating, either individually or  concurrently. In some cases, body image concerns are often a significant contributing factor to the development and perpetuation of eating disorders.
